Acute Medicine

The posts vary covering gastroenterology, respiratory, endocrinology and diabetes, cardiology and stroke (with infectious disease) medicine. The SHOs in medicine are expected to run the ward and have a lot of opportunity to make clinical decisions.
There are opportunities to get to outpatient clinics with some posts such as gastroenterology having more time in clinic.

On calls are busy - you cover a general medical take varying from being on for A+E or MAU/wards. You also cover the resus bleep and will be expected to play a relatively senior role in the resus team with anaesthetic support.

Teaching occurs on a Wednesday lunchtime and involves paper presentations and discussions. This is bleep free. Other educational opportunities include the grand round on Thursday lunchtime.
