Corbett Medical Practice, Droitwich Spa
OVERVIEW
The Corbett Medical Practice is based in the town of Droitwich Spa in Worcestershire. There are currently 11,000 patients on our medical list who live in the town or in one of the surrounding villages. The current partnership has developed from a two and a half partner practice working from an adapted estate office, to one with five partners and five associate doctors working from purpose built premises. Our list size has grown considerably over the last 2 years and is likely to continue to grow as the expansion of the town population continues.
Over the last 14 years the practice has evolved to one which is paper light, and is heavily involved in undergraduate and postgraduate training. It has previously been involved in fundholding/locality purchasing and is currently working with the two other practices in Droitwich as a practice based commissioning cluster.
The practice is a second wave PMS plus practice and achieved all but 4 of the quality and outcome framework points last year. The practice received the Investors in People award in 1999, the first practice in the county to do so and was successfully re-accredited for “IiP” in 2002 and 2006.
The practice provides a comprehensive range of medical services including asthma clinics, diabetes clinics, child health surveillance, family planning, minor surgery, travel vaccinations, smoking cessation, weight loss, medical acupuncture and well woman and well man checks. The practice is provides a GPwSI service for Droitwich residents in Dermatology as a joint venture with Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
We have recently started to develop our role as a research practice, collaborating in research projects organised by Birmingham and Warwick universities.
We work closely with all members of the primary healthcare team, and have District Nurses, Health Visitors, Social Workers, a Benefits Advisor, Job Centre Plus and Physiotherapists working from the premises. The practice has also had an augmented Counselling service for 12 years and has had a Dietician based at the practice for the last 2 years.
The practice usually has 2 doctors in training at any one time. We also provide intermittent primary care placements for SPR in Paediatrics (during the community placement) and SPR in Palliative care during placements at St Richards Hospice.
The Practice is an undergraduate training practice for Firm 1 training (Dept General Practice, Birmingham University). During the academic year the practice provides a full teaching program four days a week, looking at all aspects of clinical and disease management. There is a designated seminar room and two clinical teaching rooms funded by the University. Both the Partners and the Associate Doctors take the leads for training different groups of students.

Directions: Take the A4440 ring road north to M5 Junction 6. Take turn onto the A4538. After 2.8 miles, at Martin Hussingtree, turn right at traffic lights onto the A38. After one mile, at the roundabout, go straight on, on the Worcester Road (B4090)
After 1.4 miles at the next roundabout continue straight on, still on the Worcester Road. Turn first right into Corbett Avenue and the surgery is on the right.
